  • Sturgeon fishing: Still some nice keeper sized sturgeon to be found in the Willamette. You will have to really look around to find them however because many of the popular holes aren't holding fish anymore. Best overall bite has been in the lower part of the river in the Toyota hole and surrounding area. Some good fish are in Multnomah Channel. The upper portions of the lower Willamette have slowed dramatically. It appears that the fish that didnt get caught in one of the way to many derbies have started leaving for the saltwater a bit early this year. The Columbia River around the mouth of the Willamette is starting to kick out some nice keepers, no big numbers of biters but some nice fish. The gorge while still very slow is showing some signs of slight improvements.

  • Spring Salmon fishing: No it is not closed. The recently announced Ocean closure is just that an "Ocean closure" and in no way effects the springer fishing season. Go to my blog to read about it. The Columbia is closed for salmon from Bonneville Dam to the mouth. The Willamette River is still open. The numbers of fish on the Willamette are much lower than on the Columbia but considering the low run forecast the bite has been decent. Most days we get at least a couple of chances at a springer. All of the popular areas are kicking out some fish, not lots but if you put your time in you will most likely get bit. The fish this year have been real sneaky - lots of quick strikes with no hookups and torn up baits. I hope we get some numbers over the falls soon because if the fishing pressure gets heavy and the bite turns on in a big way it may close as well.

  • Reserve your dates now for springers I only have a couple of days left Call 503-551-6369 to reserve a date

  • Steelhead: in between time now, winters are done and summers are just starting to trickle in. Best bet for the summer fish would be the Willamette, lots of nice steelhead being caught by salmon fisherman in the Oregon City area.

  • Tired of Gill Nets? If you would like to see gill nets off the Columbia and over harvest reduced in the ocean. If you are tired of the Canadian commercial fleet catching all of our fish. If your fed up with the states not recognizing the value of sport fishing. If you are tired of closed or shortened seasons on the Columbia River.  If you feel like you don't have any say in our fisheries then you need to  JOIN CCA. The Coastal Conservation Association has been instrumental in the success of 100's of projects on the Gulf Coast and East Coast to reduce commercial over harvest, ban gill nets and to restore fisheries. We now have a Pacific Northwest Chapter. This is the best chance as sport fisherman in this region to speak with a unified voice and to actually be recognized. The goal is to reach 50,000 members regionally as soon as we can. We have many other fishing organizations around the northwest but none of them with the political muscle as CCA - just ask a gill-netter there view on CCA, they are very nervous about this new northwest chapter. Feel free to email me with any questions. To sign up go to one of the links below and download the form or come to the membership meeting
